In partnership with the European Union and the Council of Europe, we are fighting discrimination and violence! Through the work of Roma mediators and work in the Roma community, we inform Roma women and girls about their rights during the COVID 19 pandemic and the mechanisms for protection against violence and discrimination.
"It's good to have information, I didn't know that I could report the discrimination I experienced when everything was closed because I thought no one was working," a Roma woman from the Roma community in Kiseljak near Tuzla told us.

Visit to the Donja Gradina memorial

Written by

The Association of Roma Women "Bolja buducnost" Tuzla in cooperation with the Roma women;s network "Uspjeh" organized a visit to the Donja Gradina memorial on August 2nd. August 2 is marked as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On that day in 1944, the Nazis sent 2,897 Roma to the gas chambers in the Auschwitz camp. This date has also been accepted by the Council of Europe and is celebrated throughout Europe. It is estimated that more than 500,000 Roma were killed during World War II, but the final number will never be determined. At the site of the suffering of Jews, Serbs, anti-fascists and others in Donja Gradina, there is a mass grave in which the then NDH buried about 40,000 Roma men and women of all ages killed with mallets, daggers, axes, hammers, ropes and other means. Of the 40,000 Roma brutally executed, most were children, women and the elderly.By marking this date, we pay tribute to and remember the victims of the Second World War, as well as other innocent victims, and we invite you to join us in our efforts to ensure that innocent victims, as well as crime, are never forgotten or repeated.

Thanks to the financial support of the Open Society Fund B&H and with their approval, funds for certain activities that cannot be realized  in emergency situation in the current project are relocated for  mitigating the consequences caused by the COVID 19 virus within Roma communities and support to women in the form of emergency humanitarian interventions. On that occasion and as part of this support, our organization  in with available funds, procured and distributed food and hygiene packages for 40 Roma families in Tuzla, Gracanica (Skahovica) and Lukavac. Through these activities, we continues to support women, especially those from marginalized groups, and this is in special compliance with the AP UNSCR 1325 for the period 2018-2020 and is within the medium-term goal 2.3. “Improved gender-responsive approach and support systems in the context of current security threats and challenges and contributes to achieving the expected result 2.3.2 Created preventive measures and established conditions for gender-responsive access to current security threats and challenges, and in crisis and emergency situations through support activities for women and girls, especially members of multiple marginalized groups, in cases of crisis and emergency.
